It made a vast, gang like sound, and was really awesome. It was cool to see the audience being utilized as an instrument, by having people who were familiar with the songs sing along. The communication between the performers and the audience made this show a whole new experience. While people were dancing, they were singing along to the well crafted vocals, and rhythmic ramblings of MF Doom.Įvery song consisted of unique beats and lyrics with really, really cool sounding samples. The dreamy style of hip hop has always been incredibly beautiful and cool sounding to me, but MF Doom was doing a lot more than merely cool beats. An immediate strong personality, this crazy frontman perfectly dishes out heavy, dark raps over beautiful beats which resemble the old school, dreamy sounding beats created by influential producers like J Dilla. MF Doom came out with explosive presence and energy.
Whilst demonstrating his bizarre lyrics and freestyle ability, the overall show is a fantastically fun experience and something completely different. He is intent on getting every single member of the audience involved during the show and encourages jumping for 'Rhymes Like Dimes'. He does a great job in terms of the technical skill, but what Doom really adds is a great personality and energy, capturing the attention as soon as he confidently steps out. His skills lie in the multi-layered qualities of his ambient releases such as 'Born Like This' which features twisted, dark raps played over far more synth heavy beats.įor anybody who has followed Daniel's career, they will know that the music found on his albums and his collaborations is really rather complex on a production side so there is anticipated chatter as to how he will translate this onto the stage. He is without a doubt one of the most unique and interesting hip hop artists on the circuit as there is nobody else even attempting to do the same sort of things as Doom.
